Cheektowaga, NY – Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 1168-represented Registered Nurses (RNs) at Sisters Hospital/St. Joseph’s Campus in the Buffalo Suburb of Cheektowaga have ratified a new multi-year contract, Union Officials announced late Wednesday (September 14th).
The ratification action is the second in three consecutive contract votes between Catholic Health and the CWA that are being held this month. Last week, nearly 2,100 RNs and Service, Technical and Clerical Associates represented by CWA Local 1133 at South Buffalo Mercy Hospital ratified two new four-year contracts. The final contract vote among 350 Technical Associates represented by CWA Local 1133 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 20th.
“With this agreement, we ‘hope’ we can begin to ‘build a true’ Labor-Management partnership at the St. Joseph Campus,” CWA Local 1168 Vice President Michael Dunphy said in a distributed press release. “Our bargaining committee and all the Nurses ‘worked hard to get here’ and we’re ‘committed’ to ‘making sure’ our patients ‘get the best care possible.’”
The St. Joseph Campus contract, which covers more than 200 Nurses at the Catholic Health Hospital, include improvements in wages, staffing and pension contributions, as well as the maintenance of high-quality, low-cost health benefits, Union Officials said.
CWA Local 1133 President Deb Arnett told WNYLaborToday.com this morning (Thursday, September 15th) that while it was a “close vote” in favor of the contract at South Buffalo Mercy Hospital, she was “very thankful” it passed. To read more click on the following link
