Miami, FL – A $35,000 “Trump discount” will wind up costing the Republican presidential candidate $283,000. Miami-Dade County Circuit Court Judge Jorge Cueto on July 22 ordered Trump to pay full legal fees for a local paint store who’d sued him for nonpayment.
When Trump renovated the Trump National Doral Miami golf resort in 2014, he signed a $200,000 contract to buy paint from The Paint Spot—but, like numerous other contractors, the store found itself on the wrong end of the “Trump discount,” the billionaire’s attitude that what he agreed to pay and what he’s willing to pay aren’t the same amount. The Trump company refused to pay the final $35,000 installment, insisting that it had “paid enough.” Cueto ruled that Trump had to cover fees for The Paint Spot’s three attorneys and two paralegals, plus a 75% “risk” fee because the lawyers had taken the case on contingency, where they would not be paid if they lost. “I’m happy I have a judgment,” store owner Juan Carlos Enriquez said. “But he [Trump] hasn’t paid yet.” Read more
