New York, NY – Jazz in the afternoon kicks off on Thursday evening, October 12th from 5:00 to 6:30pm. The event is taking place at Local 802 “Club Room” 322 West 48th Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues, First Floor. Top NYC jazz musicians play iconic film music—from Star Wars, Jaws, Gone with the Wind, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Magnificent Seven, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and more! A great introduction to the Jazz in the Afternoon series will take place on October 12th featuring NYC’s best musicians. The Filmharmonic Brass is the brainchild of trumpet player Dominic Derasse. This ensemble of seven of New York’s top brass players exclusively records and performs music connected with the moving image. The group’s exciting musical is a live, magical, interactive experience for audiences of all ages to enjoy their favorite film soundtracks.

The Jazz in the Afternoon series is a vibrant and excitting musical experience in which popular jazz club musicians and players from Broadway, television/film and the classical orchestras perform.  Audiences are invited  to join the fun for free as musicians  explore new compositions and new approaches to old favorites.

While there is no charge for admission, donations of any amount are accepted to benefit the NYC Musician’s Emergency Relief Fund of American Federation of Musicians Local 802, which helps musicians in times of crisis. Donations can be made in cash or by check or credit card.

Local 802, AFM is one of the largest local unions of professional musicians in the world, working to promote artistic excellence and strengthen New York City’s vibrant arts community by advocating for fair treatment and compensation of hardworking musicians and performers.
