Louisville, KY – Teamsters Local 89 has filed an unfair-labor-practices complaint against Brown-Forman, the distiller that owns Jack Daniel’s whiskey.
President Fred Zuckerman said the union decided to file the complaint with the National Labor Relations Board’s Cincinnati office Feb. 3, after company officials told them they planned to impose a contract members had already overwhelmingly rejected. Local 89’s last contract expired Feb. 1. Zuckerman said workers had voted against the deal because of issues with its proposals on wages, benefits, and pensions. The company “broke the law in bargaining,” he said. “They don't have the right to do that. Our only recourse is to file a complaint against them.” The union represents about 200 workers at two Brown-Forman facilities in the Louisville area. Read more
