CSEA Slams Lottery Sweetheart Deal and Questionable NYS Contracting Practices

ALBANY NY — CSEA today called for a legislative hearing over the appearance of impropriety at the New York State Lottery. The call came following a published report that a top New York State Lottery official who recently negotiated a multi-million dollar contract with a private vendor is now working for the same vendor. CSEA believes the situation should be reviewed immediately by the Office of Inspector General and J-COPE.

NYC Parents Boycott State Tests

New York NY - Parents in New York City and across NY State are boycotting and protesting this year's state standardized tests which started April 16, 2013. Parent groups assert that based on the numbers of concerned parents attending meetings and signing petitions, there would have been thousands more participating in this boycott if the NY State Education Department and the NYC DOE hadn’t created such an atmosphere of fear and intimidation.

Prendergast Nominated to Serve as MTA Chairman

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has nominated Thomas F. Prendergast to serve as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). Mr. Prendergast has served more than three years as president of MTA New York City Transit, which runs the subway and bus system in New York City, and has served as the MTA Interim Executive Director since January 1, 2013. He replaces Joseph Lhota.

De Blasio has a plan to provide every four-year old child with pre-kindergarten and dramatically expand after-school programs for middle schoolers—and has called for a marginal tax increase on incomes over $500,000 to pay for it.
