New York, NY – I am thrilled to honor one of my personal heroes, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. There are those who think that Dr. King's vision of non-violent resistance was nothing more than passive non-response in the face of hate and cruelty. There are also those who will co-opt his memory while simultaneously doing everything they can to subvert the dream.

Dr. King's agitation and resistance against the system helped point America in the direction of peace, healing and unity. His message was relevant then, and it is certainly relevant now. All of us should ask ourselves, what have we done in the last year to push the dream forward, and what will we do before this year ends?

And, as we contemplate this question, let us pause to celebrate his life and take steps to help reach the mountaintop that he envisioned for all of us."
