On March 9th, the Doctors Council, along with hundreds of doctors went to Albany to protest health care funding cuts. The Doctors Council, which represents physicians and dentists employed at City Hospitals and facilities, including HHC and the Mayoral Agencies, joined with the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) at an all-day action that included a rally, speeches and legislative meetings addressing issues important to doctors and patients.
After the rally, Doctors Council members met with legislators. “Doctors Council is both a Union for Doctors and a Voice for Patients,” stated Dr. Barry Liebowitz, President of Doctors Council. “As doctors, we have to speak out to protect the patient services we provide in the communities we serve and ensure that quality patient care receives the funding it needs.” Dr. Liebowitz also noted that, “At this critical time in the history of the delivery of patient care and the possibility of real health care reform, now more than ever we need to protect and enhance our public health system.”
