On Friday, November 13th, the Business and Labor Coalition of New York (BALCONY, www.balconynewyork.com) will host a Breakfast Forum on the GATEWAY Project, with Keynote Speaker Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY). This important breakfast program will take place at 4 W. 43rd St. in NYC beginning 8am.
The Gateway Project is a $20 billion proposal for a number of rail-infrastructure improvements that include a new high-speed rail corridor under the Hudson River to alleviate the congestion blocking the Northeast Corridor between New Jersey, and New York City. The Obama Administration has ranked GATEWAY the "most important rail infrastructure project in the country" and both NY Governor Andrew Cuomo and NJ Governor Chris Christie have agreed that the project is necessary for the economic development and sustainability of the Northeast Corridor. Collectively the two governors have committed to funding more than half of the $20 billion project with $14 billion of state money split between NY and NJ. Federal funding of the remainder is still in its early stages. BALCONY's GATEWAY Forum will work to build a constituency in support of the project among the general public.
Registration will begin at 8:00 am The keynote address will be followed by a panel discussion consisting of business and union leaders as well as public officials.
