“I am heartbroken by the loss of Héctor Figueroa, a champion for working people and tireless voice for justice. Héctor was a titan in the labor movement and a fearless and brilliant leader who I was proud to call a friend.

“Héctor never feared speaking truth to power, and he was universally respected for his unflinching defense of his values. He went to bat for the most pressing priorities of our time – and he won. Our communities are stronger because of Héctor’s work to raise the minimum wage, defend the right to organize, and institute landmark protections to help working people. Everyone who met Hector immediately knew the incredible, powerful love he had for his work, his union, and our City, and how he used that love to be a force for good.

“My heart goes out to Héctor’s wife, Deidre, and his children, Eric and Elena, as well as his family and friends, the members of 32BJ, and everyone who knew and loved him. His leadership and legacy will continue to inspire all of us to fight even harder for fairness and justice for all.”
