Rochester, NY – More than 2,000 union delegates from across the state will gather this week in Rochester to advocate for public education and defend the rights of workers as part of the 44thannual NYSUT Representative Assembly.

Beginning at 2 p.m. Friday, delegates attending NYSUT’s annual policymaking convention will spend two days deliberating nearly 40 resolutions which will include defending students from inappropriate testing, calling for a repeal of the state’s receivership law, enhancing workplace safety and protecting collective bargaining rights.

NYSUT President Karen E. Magee will present the state of the union address to delegates Friday evening.

Other scheduled speakers throughout the RA include: American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten; New York State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento; National Education Association Secretary-Treasurer Princess Moss; New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli; New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and U.S. Rep Louise Slaughter, D-Rochester.

This year’s RA — which will be held through Saturday afternoon at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, 123 E. Main St. — marks 10 years since the convention was last held in the Flower City.

New York State United Teachers is a statewide union with more than 600,000 members in education, human services and health care.
