Washington, DC – On May 15, American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten will be honored by the civil and human rights community. Randi will receive the prestigious Hubert H. Humphrey Civil and Human Rights Award, for her lifelong commitment to improving America’s education system.

As head of the 1.5 million-member AFT, Weingarten represents teachers, higher education faculty and staff, health care professionals, and other school-related personnel. Randy continues to be an outstanding labor leader and has led efforts to make education reform a prominent issue on national and union agendas.

President Weingarten has been a leading voice in dialogue among parents, teachers, community partners, and public officials regarding equal access to quality education.
