Washington, DC – The AFL-CIO on Nov. 22 endorsed Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for re-election as House Minority Leader, backing her over longshot challenger Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio).
“Nancy Pelosi was with us before and after the election,” federation President Rich Trumka posted on Twitter. “Our agenda is her agenda, and that’s why we’re with her.” Ryan, who represents the Akron-Youngstown area of northeastern Ohio, contends that he could do a better job of reaching working-class Rust Belt voters who supported Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton. “I’m uniquely qualified, because I know who these people are,” he told CNN Nov. 20.
