Washington DC - A recent AFL-CIO report, "Death on the Job: The Toll of Neglect," said in 2011, 4,693 workers were killed on the job and about 50,000 die every year from occupational diseases. The report noted that an average of 13 U.S. workers die on the job every day while an additional estimated 137 die each day from occupational diseases.

Spokane, Washington - The Postal Service has informed the American Postal Workers Union and local postal workers on May 15 that preliminary lab tests indicated the presence of ricin on two suspicious letters in Spokane Washington. The letters are being analyzed and tested further for hazardous material.

WASHINGTON, DC - The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) and the Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) have announced a partnership to jointly represent nearly 30,000 ground workers at the "new" American Airlines following the merger of American Airlines and US Airways.

San Francisco, California - Concessions workers at the San Francisco Giants’ AT&T Park have authorize a strike. The 516 workers voted, approving a strike by 97%. The vote authorizes union leadership to call for any action including up to a five-day strike and a boycott of food and beverage at the park.
