11 Arrested in Harvard Strike Protest

Cambridge, MA – Eleven people were arrested Oct. 14 after they blocked traffic in Harvard Square in a civil-disobedience protest supporting striking dining-services workers at Harvard University.

The 11 included several strikers, UNITE HERE Local 26 President Brian Lang, and Local 26 lead negotiator Michael Kramer. They were charged with disorderly conduct and released that evening. Several other protests took place around the campus, including one where students chanting “support the strike” interrupted an alumni reunion and were escorted out by university police. The about 750 workers have been on strike for more than two weeks, with a minimum annual wage and health benefits the main areas of dispute. Read more
